Photoshop 7 Bug (Too Many Fonts?)
Hello once again!
I have very exciting news about Photoshop! Ok, only exciting if your photoshop hasn’t been working for the past six months and you finally figured out the bug.
Apparently Windows doesn’t like to have more than 1000 fonts loaded in the system. Takes up too much memory. Here’s a chart on what causes system delays: What Slows Windows Down? I was without this datum until yesterday, and I had loaded 5000+ fonts onto my system from a package my friend gave me.
My friend dug up this article on photoshop problems (he was having the same problem as me) and removed most the entire package of fonts and just left the originals, and voila! It worked! I tried it and it worked as well!
My lesson has definitely be learned. I hope this blog helps some people out.

I have the same problem, I have a Sempron 2800+, 1024mb ram and Windows XP pro. But when my Photoshop gots laggy, I’ve checked my memory and process usage, and they weren’t fully used, that discards the memory theory. I guess how the Mac works ’cause my friend got 6000+ fonts installed and all the programs runs well. Maybe theres a plugin or something wich solve our problem, because I don’t wanna remove my dear fonts.
I do know that Photoshop CS2 will get laggy from excessive fonts, but my friend who experienced the problem had around 5500 fonts. Memory could be the problem, as graphics programs in general use a LOT of memory. I suggest 1024mbs+ of RAM as a minimum for any graphics progam.
You could try moving the fonts to another area and seeing if it speeds up. If it doesn’t, then you know that’s not the problem.
By broken, how broken do you mean?
I wrote that article on what slows Windows but that’s besides the point. My PhotoShop is being REALLY slow when creating new files or opening existing ones. Like 5 minutes a go.
I’ve “only” got 450-odd fonts. Same in CS2 and CS3. Very annoying. Oh well. Glad you liked the article.
